Hello lads

Postby rob irl » Thu Apr 01, 2010 11:25 pm

Hello. Name is Robbie. Love to get one of these cars but insurance seems to be the killer. Driving a 2003 golf pd 130 at the minute which could be sold by the weekend. I got a quote from quinn for €1300 fully comp for a 2.0 v6 mivic

he's not a good mechanic if he's saying that.
They are good reliable cars and a real head turners. And for the price you can get ftos now you can't complain.
As for the parts. They are easy enough to get and this site has various contacts and discounts. There are some parts that might be harder to get but thats like all cars that stopped production 10 years ago. you'll still get them.

oh yeah :wel

Thanks. I turn 25 in August. Might be cheaper to insure under my dads name if i buy a van as my main drive.

Is the manual versions nicer to drive?

I just did my insurance there a few weeks and it was €807 on a gr model and im only 23. I think thats a good quote for me with 2 points and 3 years no claims and the usual windscreen cover etc.
The mivec are higher to insure so if you you don't have you eye on a mivec you might go with a gr which is 2 litre aswell :P

I haven't driven an automatic fto to compare it to a manual but im guessing its the exact same... i think :!:

It's fairly subjective, I had both and found the manual more fun for driving on backroads or driving aggressively. the Tiptronic is a great autobox but if you're the type of guy that likes to speed from the lights or use the gears to slow you down, the manual offers more control. Once you get moving the tiptronic isn't noticibly slower than the manual.

Change your mechanic, he obviously likes to stay mainstream and keep life as easy as possible for himself.

That's some insurance deal you got there - how did you manage that at 23 ?

Robbie, E1300 is a very good price for fully comp on a V6. I'm paying near to that myself.

I'm surprised you got a quote actually!! Go for it man, I've never regretted it!! Cracking cars on track too, the roar off my V6 is epic!!!

Oh and welcome!

I don't have a clue. I rang Quinn up for my renewal expecting about €1,200. Nearly dropped me phone when he said €807
I asked him to repeat himself 3 times just in case

that is cheap!!!.....

i pay £778 a year and am 26 with no points hopefully it will go down come renewal time in June!...

Id say the tiptronic is better than the manual - iv had a manual gr in the past and they are great but the auto box is great when you are in heavy traffic in the mornings.

Its true what someone said these cars are still real headturners even though mine is like 14 years old

From my experience look out for noisy tappets, as they are expensive to replace but are readily available on a partner site.
Just make sure you start the engine when its been rested overnight as when the oil heats up the noise goes. (Also noisy tappets don't do damage just a crap noise for 2 minutes till the engine heats up)

*** tappets have to be replace in all models that aren't mivecs, where they can just be adjusted***

thats all from my experience with fto's. As I said before their great reliable cars, but im sure other people had other problems and will give you a heads up
