[EVENT] Custom & Performance, Limerick [13th Sept 2009]

13th September, following the same formula as previous years. Drag strip, show & shine, scantily clad girlies, diffin, drifting, Supermacs, it's all there.

This show has been the high point of the Irish FTO calander for the past few years, and if the weather suits on the day it's a great way to spend a day. Here are some past photos from the show & shine and drag strip:

The organisers wrote:
Following on from the enormous success we have had over previous years, Sleek FX wanted to focus this year on genuine car enthusiasts. With that in mind we have added some new and exciting attractions. We will of course have all the usual events that have kept you coming back in your thousands for the past five years.

Toping the bill is "King Of The Ring” which has been revamped for this years comp. Making the area bigger allows us to battle cars against each other to determine who is this year’s winner. The battle zone is a new concept for this years show and should prove to be the main attraction with tyre shredding one on one action all day.

For those of you addicted to big bhp and terminal top end speeds, enter the "Sprint Strip". Broken down into ten different classes, we will determine who the fastest driver is on the strip. Everything from Civics’ Evo's, Skyline's, Supra's, and Cosworth's will blast down the tarmac! How fast is your car?

The Website Battle this year will also change giving every site a better chance to win the bragging rights and of course trophy for the next 12 mts. With so many new sites out there this years comp should be very interesting. Rules shall be posted at a later date.

For the proud and the polished why not enter the “Show and Shine” for cars that have been built through sheer imagination, dedication and the will to be unique. So why not enter now to secure your place. If you dare to be different then this is for you. Ireland’s only Jap performance magazine MiJ have put together there own comp for the best Jap car of the day. First prize for this comp will be a full feature in the mag which is the ultimate for your pride and joy.

With the economic downturn we have decided to offer trade stands free of charge. This is going to give everyone a chance to rep the benefits of selling product to a large customer base in one day. Advertise your company, sell products or do both all in the one day all in the one venue.

Our latest attraction to the show is the “Dyno Dynamic's Rolling Road” supplied by West Coast Performance. Cars will hit the rollers to find out what BHP and torque they are producing. John Allen from WCP will be on hand to give advice and comments or your car to achieve peak performance on the road. Cars this year can be booked through WCP or booked on the day.

So if you’ve been to the show in previous years then you know what to expect and we will see you there, for those of you that have not yet joined us! You now know what’s on offer and we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

The staff here at Sleek FX are on hand now and look forward to taking your entries. Together we aim to offer you an exciting & exhilarating experience, which promises to be bigger and better than previous years! The venue is Limerick Racecourse on September 13th.

See you there!

If I still have the car I'll probably enter into the drag strip, but I'll hang off as there is a possibility it will be going very soon!

Do you think the car will be there even if you sell it?
Not that we don't want to see you too Dave

Who knows, I'm sure whoever buys it, will be an enthusiast and might want to see what it's capable of!!

Would I still be welcome if I turned up in an Opel Astra?

No pressure Tom - you've just gotta keep up this FTO's mantle of fastest (proven) Irish FTO in a 1/4 mile.
In any case - its always handy to keep with you a good list of racing driver excuses.

Well I'll def need them if I'm going to do a 1/4 mile in a Range Rover Sport.
Heres a couple -
"I got an..erm.. rabbit stuck in my cold air induction kit."
" I was just remapping the ECU while I was doing those last three runs."
"I'm about 100bhp down cause I couldn't get any maxol E5/Octane booster..yada yada".
"My engine is a bit tight after just 100K miles"
"My engine needs to be rebuilt cause its now done 100K miles"
"My missus will kill me if I crash it" (I can see this one being popular).
"I..erm.. ran out of road"
"I slowed down to give you guys a chance to take pictures"
" I went to change the gear and instead hit the handbrake"
"My tyres were too cold" & "My tyres were too hot".
"I forgot my lucky jocks"
"That frigging supercharged 350Z was holding me up"
"I thought you said it was flat out through the bend"
And my favorite - "If I was using one of my two turbo FTO's I would have so kicked yo ass!"

I think its probably just that Japfest is up before Limerick tbh.
I'll still be going to Limerick in any case (1/4 mile & rolling road).
It is a pity - FTO Ireland has been very well represented at this show for the past few years.

We'll have a chat about it at Japfest and see if we can pull together even 5 or 6 FTOs.

Do you know what kind of dyno that they'll be using? I wonder what kind of power figures it will throw out.... (You should also see if there's any belt slippage up in the higher rev range as boost will fall off if it is)

Back on topic, I personally wouldn't go to Limerick again, they let in way too much tat last year, the drag was a shambles, granted weather played a massive part in it, but realistically, having a seriously powerful car, that strip isn't safe......I have heard very good reports on Japfest, it's meant to be one of the best shows in the calender!
