underbody rust for nct

i was wondering could anybody tell me how big an issue with underbody rust is with the nct. the auction sheet has informed me of underbody rust and worn out?

depends how severe it is -if they can poke a screwdriver through it -it's a fail..

How soon after getting the car in are you doing the nct?

not sure yet i was maybe hoping to do it within a moth of getting it. must leave a note when bidding to check severity of rust. its a 99. gs auto. but there is also a 97 blue gpx manual might bid on both.[/img]

A GS auto wouldn't be the best buy - 1.8litre engine with a Tip box - a GPX Manual is on a different planet performance wise.

Jees man - go for the GPX..

Dave from here has had both..
If you have a month you have plenty of time to get the rust treated..but there are holes I'd let somebody else buy it..

Unless you really, really, really want a GS auto for yourself, then don't bother. It will be a lonely time when you go to re sell. Also most insurance companies treat FTO's the same regardless of engine size - so no saving there. The extra tax motor tax + fuel of the 2L is more than made up for with the performance differential.

Would not worry too much about the rust -it's likely to be very minor -translations can be blunt "worn out" just means worn (usually slightly!)
They have to mention the underbody rust. In Australia (or is it NZ, or both) -one of the main markets for used jap cars, it is not permissible to import a car with under body rust. Not a problem here where you can bring in any old shed

ya i know the 2.o gr's and mivecs are 10 times better but these tend to be going over my budget. but maybe a gs might not be too bad. its a 99 at least and the look of the fto is really the thing for me.or am im i off the ball completely?

The look of the FTO really did it for me initially. I wouldn't have cared if it was a 1 ltr! Then I drove the V6 and the performance and handling are even better than the looks. You'll spend a lot more time driving it than looking at it and it will soo be worth it if you can get the extra bread together. Really hound the insurance companies and go into them, there are lads on here who are young and seem to get pretty ok rates. Good Luck

Thr FTO is a diamond looking car and it will always look great but after a while the little things (what you think are little now) begin to make a big difference (that little dent on the door that you didn't care about when you got it starts to come between you and your sleep!)- you'll have the looks but you might regret not having the V6 under the bonnet.

There isn't a hell of a lot of difference on the insurace (If any) a small bit extra on the road tax and maybe a little more on petrol but on the scale of things you'd be talking about the price of a few pints a week in the difference to have the V6+MIVEC.

Personally I'd prefer an older model GPX or GR to a newer GS.

agree with all the above !! go for the gpx, when you get out and look back at it, ot looks like it just drove! a 1.8 doesnt, it always looks better than it actually drives, might aswell put an electric motor in it

Hey lads probably spotted in it general section but i bought myself the gpx. 98 only thing is it has 93000 miles done on it but what the heck. i have my mivec.Cheers for your advise appreciated.

If you don't mind paying Sterling and overseas delivery, then get it from www.camskill.co.uk It still seems to work out cheaper this way than Ireland anyhow! Generally I find stuff arrives within 2 working days and they've never sent me the wrong gear. They're pretty FTO dedicated.

Yep, do and don't forget the water pump. If you're gonna be that far in it should be replaced also.
