Mazda RX-8

The new RX-8 dosn't look bad at all, kinda similar to the lines of an S2000, also, 228bhp out of a 1.3L twin rotary engine is quite a feat. The sale price in the U&K will be about £20K so it'll be interesting what it will be priced like over here (nearer to 40k I would have thought).

Saw my first one last weekend in Glasgow.. have to say it looks quite good on the road, and sounds amazing... almost like a jet turbine. Shame it's going to be so expensive over here.

Yes, for the lesser powered one (190 bhp I think) and the greater powered one (240 bhp I tink) will be about 49K.

Do you reckon the second hand prices will go down in three years or so when the Jap imports start flooding in with none of that illigal VRT crap being added on?

Jees.. who knows... all I know is that it is illegal in European law, and was supposed to be canned in 2001.... good 'old government found a loophole though to keep it going for another couple of years. All it'll take is one person to take them to court over it and that'll be the end of VRT.

I saw one of these babys on display in Lisbon airport on Saturday, they really do look the part close up. Nice touch on the interior as well, leather with plenty of shiny bits.

Was watching X-Men 2 there a couple of nights ago... am I right in saying that the car Wolverine uses to get away from the house after the police invasion is a blue jazzed-up RX-8??

What is the official 'Irish' engine size in the RX8, CBG.ie state it for road tax purposes as being a 1.3l, but some of the mazda dealers are saying it's a 2.6?

I saw 3 of these over the weekend - I never really thought they looked that nice in pictures but they look really nice in flesh, especially on the move. Still though, I wouldn't spend 40K on one :)

I was in looking at an RX-8 back in december/ january, and I asked the dealer about the motor tax situation. I was told that the basis of assessment i.e. the classification of the car, for the purposes of motor tax, was that of a 1.8 engine. Apparently a compromise between the government and the distributor here. Although he did say that the previous RX-7 was classed as a 2.5L for motor tax purposes.
