Derek spent 2 hours fitting this PIAA racer horn today, only to find out that it needs 2 more connectors. He was mad to say the least...

How stupid is that, not supplying extra for cars it's unlikely to fit? Also have to put both of them together on the left side instead of seperate like the original, as my splashguard on the right is missing. If I thought it was going to be this bloody complicated...

Just looking at the camskill site there 115db that's VERY loud. Even more so if there's two of them.

Does anybody know the DB rating of the standard horns?

with regards to installing them I take it you run the same positive connnection to both horns and then simply wire the negative to the chassis?

Just fitted!! It's not as loud as you think. I'll take pics tomorrow and a video of the sound.

I'll get Derek to log in later as me and tell ye what extra bits are needed and the work involved... Looks good though! Bear in mind mine had to be fitted to the same place because of the missing splashguard, it's easier to keep them together though anyway.

At least now people will sit up and notice instead of ignoring me...

Hey everyone, Derek here.

First things first, dont be put off, its actually quite an easy job. I only got peed off yesterday because it started raining on me soon after I started into the job and then it got too dark to see what I was doing.

Back today with all the bits I needed. Namely, 2 extra 1/4" spade connectors and two 10mm ring connectors and about three foot of electric cable.

There are two horns as standard on the FTO, one at each side of the car behind the bumper and in front of the splash guards. The first job is to get at these from under the car and disconnect the wires from them. As we were fitting both new horns to the passenger side I just wrapped the connectors for the drivers side in loads of insulating tape and tucked them away safely.

On the passenger side I cut off the two pin connectors on the standard cables and connected the live wire (green) to the new length of wire and just taped up the earth wire. Then routed the live wire up through the hole where the window washer bottle neck comes through the inner wing, which brought it out near the induction kit. I mounted both horns to the bracket holding the indutction kit, and using the two spade connectors conneted the live with to the live terminals on the two horns. Then just wired the earths back to the body earth which is right beside the induction kit too using the two ring connectors, and a few cable ties to tidy everything up.

All in all about an hours work once I had the right bits and bobs and the right weather! Toughest bit was managing to disconnect the wires from the old horns as it required a bit of contorsioning to get my hand anywhere near the plugs let alone unplug them!

Sounds very good I must say. I dont really like where they are mounted at the moment though, looks a bit messy in the engine bay, but laura seems to like being able to see them. Now that they're wired up I'll have a look about to see if theres anywhere better they could get tucked away out of sight.

could be down to the positioning of the horns

Ah very good -thanks for those pics OI..

The original horns are just behind the front bumper - yours are in the enginebay - would porlly be more difficult for the sound to escape from there.

I have jacked up my car but can't seem to find the stock horns this is killing me, I need them to pass pits and haven't been able to find them, maybe they were removed? If that the case which wire connects with the horn lol might have to go and buy some new ones

The horns (there are two) are under each headlight.
You'll have to take the bumper off to get at them.

I am planning an upgrade to my horns but with sickspeed horns. I plan to run some more wire so you can see them behind the grill since they come in a white cage.
