Final Drive issue

Hi all. Recently bought an Fto gearbox thinking it will either have 4.0 or 4.4 final drive.
However when i have split it last night i count the splines and tooths on both output shaft and crown wheel and i got shocked as its only 3.722 thats in it!

Ive checked on Caps and theres no such thing like 3.722 ever fitted to any Fto chassis.
Any thoughts on this?

Hello Mate, thats the final drive from the galant 2.5v6 fwd.

Its shares the same box as us F5m42

Most people who do the VR4 conversion are after that gearbox as it suits the engine better than the 4.312, so it may be worth a few quid still.

I was so pissed when ive open the gearbox, its absolutely useless to me. I will be using its case anyways and maybe some synchro/gears out of it so should i sell the finall drive alone?

Hi mate, Yeah received the bits friday thanks. Just need to get round to fitting them now

Ive done the track car now, and it all swaps over fine. So its now 4.625 fd with a 27spline Quaife LSD

Also from what i found if using RS box on 6a12 there's no need to use RS clutch and flywheel as the FTO one fits perfect

What was the case number out of interest? As ive opened an FTO numbered box before and found the same Galant stuff

Bit of an update on this:

gear ratios:

1st 3.583
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.266
4th 0.970
5th 0.767

This gearbox is savage top speeds wise lol.
