Ireland's First Cannonball Run

Postby Kace » Thu Jul 23, 2009 9:02 pm

Ireland's version of Gumball 3000 - Cannonball Run - http://www.cannonball.ie

Anyone wealthy enough in the group to spare the 850 yo-yos and patricipate ???

I'm sure that the company would be great - all for a great cause too with Barretstown http://www.barretstown.org !!

Very interesting. Our club funds won't stretch to the entry fee, is there a company or individual out there who would be interested in sponsoring a club entry (a long shot I know but if you don't ask, you don't get)?

And he's snubbing us cause he felt he got negative vibes? seems he has a talent for rubbing people up the wrong way! (little off topic, but had to be said)

Back on topic fellas - FTO-Ireland representation @ this event would be a great achievement. It may be a bit late in the day to get involved this year though.....

I'll hold you to that gt ;)

On a related note, I recently read a book called 'The Driver' by Alex Roy which documents an effort to beat the original Cannonball Run US cross country record in a BMW M5. Its being made into a film which will be largely composed of footage shot during the event, trailer below, look up '32Hours7Minutes' on YouTube for more videos:

Would be good fun alright, Think they pick the cars as there is only a limited amount of cars allowed in it, so if you might not get picked anyway

Wouldn't mind doing this. The route will be passing by my house.
Problem is I don't think a Range Rover Sport will do.

You know the way businesses can right off charitable donations against their tax, and the registration is a direct payment to the charity if im not mistaken... Is there a way to get at it from this angle? Not to firmiliar with the 'ins and outs' of this but theres definately something about writing donations off...

Would be very cool to do it alright... 850 not too bad when you take the 2 or 3 nights stay in 4 star hotels into account and the cars likely to be involved (who could probably afford a lot more). If someone just happened to be going the same way the same weekend by a complete coincidence... staying in the closest b&bs to the hotels... ;]

I signed up to do this event a couple of weeks ago but i didn't get in as they advised they received 3 or 4 times the amount of responses they needed. I think 100 in total available. I've been put on a cancellation list so i won't be holding my breath!!
