Itunes Help

Postby karlf » Wed Apr 15, 2009 12:41 pm

I was trying to share music between my pc and laptop. Was trying to put my itunes library in a shared file and now I cant find it. All my music is gone from itunes. Ayone know how I can find this file? Is there a way of undoing moving those files.

What operating system(s) are you using? Presuming you have computers networked,

Vista: in explorer you should see a 'Public' folder under 'Desktop' (same level as 'Computer' and 'Network'). You should also be able to access it from 'Desktop\Network\Computer Name\

XP: 'My Network Places\Entire Network\Microsoft Windows Network\Workgroup Name\Computer Name\

What exactly did you do to try to put the files in a shared library?

Sorry it took so long to reply, missed the replies. I'm using a wireless router at home and had set up an adhoc connection between the pc and my laptop. Not all files were shared so I moved my itunes library into a file that was shared already and then couldn't find them. I got all my files downloaded from the net back, but cant find files that I uploaded off CD's. Guess I'll just have to upload them all again.

You could try doing a wildcard search of all your drives. Just type "*.mp3" without the quotes, and all your music will be found. Hope this helps.. :)

I did do a search for mp3 and all I got was my downloaded files. I searched for all files containing mp3, I assumed that searches the whole computer. Am I right?

When you burned the CDs onto the PC did you convert them to MP3?
If not, they might still be there with the original extension (not sure what it is though).

If Windows Media Player was used to rip the CDs to disk, the default format is ".WMA" as far as I know. You would have to purposely choose output as ".MP3" or even ".WAV".

I'll try those suggestions, cheers guys. I'm not sure about the format, I just put the disc in and I tunes would automatically play and upload the songs. I didn't have to choose anything.

Hang on before you do that. You know that *.* will list EVERY file on your PC, right..? I was joking when I said to do it. If you try, it will probably crash...
