Car Check in the UK

Postby Dave » Fri Jun 13, 2008 9:09 am

Is there a check you can get done for cars in the UK to see if they have been involved in an insurance claim and so on?

If so, anyone got a link to said site/company?

(thinking of picking up an A4 in the UK for the missus)

Cheers

Dave the most common one is HPI, costs £20. I also believe that they have the largest database. They'll do a basic check based on the reg number. For extra security you can provide the chassis no. and V5 document number. If teh car is in mainland UK they proviude cover, up to £30k I think, in the event that the inforamation they provide is incorrect.
The AA and RAC also do similar checks. I think one of them was doing a special offer at £5 or something.

here you go http://www.hpicheck.com/newfrontend/
You'll likely need to ring them as the online version will not allow you to proceed without a valid UK post code (I do not recommend putting in a false one, as they do actually post out a copy to you) They'll send you a pdf copy by email also.

I got that done and it gives pretty much all the info you'd need, just on another point, the insurance one, it only gives a breakdown of claims where "total loss" has occurred, is there a check to see if the car has been in any accident not just a total loss claim?

Dave - had you also considered getting a full mechanical check done on the car, or are you going to go on a gut feel that it's a good'un ?

If it's something you're considering, then RAC do a great job - albeit at a price of about 240 yo-yos
