Anyone fitted winter tyres?

I had some snow socks on the BM and was well impressed but still had no steering or braking in the snow so I got in a set of winter tyres and had them fitted yesterday morning - I know winters should ideally be higher profile and narrow but I kept to the OEM tyre size (225x40x18 fr, 255x35x18 rear) & I am seriously impressed - despite the size of the tyre the grip is amazing - steering is brilliant and braking is night and day.

The looks I get overtaking people in the snow

winter tyres are compulsory in many european countries . Hell they even include them in the package when you buy a new car in Germany for example .
They should be more accesible over here , and people should be more aware how to use them .
Also they should advise ant teach drivers how to drive in snow .... You can have 5 winter tyres if the road is completely blocked by clueless drivers

Rumour has it they're a bit pooey ....as you have to remove them to drive on tarmac otherwise you'll wear them down real quick.

I had them before the snow tyres - not sure how long they last if driving on tarmac but they're great on the snow. Good to have in the boot in case of emergency. Rumor has it we may get more snow this week -
