Exhaust Middle section

Postby Mustang » Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:12 pm

Does anybody know who manufactures (apart from mitsi) or where I can get an exhaust middle section for a GR mitsi part no. MR160272.
I've tried a local garage and the local motor factors and neither of them had the FTO listed in their catalogues :x Same old story!
Is this part common to any other mitsubishi cars?

As far as I'm aware the GR middle section is model specific, you'll have to get it direct from Mitsi or save a few quid and get a second hand one.

Steelroe has an aftermarket exhaust system for sale - I bought my RSR from him - I'd imagine it would be much cheaper to go down this road than paying for a OE centre section - I sold my orig centre section to Philip in Galway recently - I have heard of a few centre sections going recently on 95/96 cars - looks like they are reaching their expiry date!

Its a good excuse to go aftermarket - get a de-Cat as well - it might only go a little better but it will sound a hell of a lot better.

Update.
I contacted Mitsubishi and they quoted €268 +VAT for this part.

Steelroe and Brian in Mitsubishi Specialists NI said much the same thing, seems to be a weak link. After much searching I finally found what I was looking for in Mitsubishi Specialists.
I contacted a total of 15 breakers/ suppliers, and a funny (frustrating) pattern emerged. When I asked "Do you have any Mitsubishi FTO's in stock" I got the exact same response from three breakers "What the feck is an FTO". As it happens they were all in the Limerick/Clare area, so maybe it's a localised phenomenon  Perhaps Myfeckin FTO with his local knowledge could advise

Doubt this is common to the Clare/Limerick area - there are not a huge amount of FTOs in scrapyards yet - but a year or two will see this increase as they are getting to the age where it may not be viable to keep the crappier ones on the road - The FTO is not a cheap car to maintain - but it is a relatively cheap car to buy so there will be a good market for someone to snap up a cheap 94/95 FTO and sell on the parts - Only thing is - everyone will be looking for the same parts - Body panels/ Exhaust centre section / CAT / Stepper motor / Alternator / console surround / wheels etc. After those are gone it won't be easy to sell on the remaining bits.

I suppose Steelroe is the man with the knowledge in this regard.

BTW - Mustang - we keep our FTO's in good nick down this side of the country - hence the lack of FTO's in the Limerick area yards :D
