7" screen in dash

I finally got my act together over the weekend and started the fitting of a 7" screen into the dash I started by taking the heater vents out, blocking them up and fitting the stereo in its place. It looks like it was factory fitted (its just a pity its a crap stereo ). I den placed the screen in where the double bin was but unfortunately had to loose the ash tray and lighter. Ive still abit of filling and sanding to do before covering it all in leather, but its taken place. Il send in a few pics of it now and when its finished. Yea im putting a playstation in the glove box so il be able to play DVDs on that aswell, its mostly just for show. I also got with the screen a tiny camera about the size of a small battery which can be mounted nearly anywhere and then pluged into the screen. Ive sent dem pics again sorry about the quality.

I took out the stereo and the crap collector underneath and put in a double din 6.5 widescreen TV/DVD/MP3/Radio player, only problem is playing CDs at night, the screen is very bright, not so bad when you have the radio on theres a bimmer switch for that. Had to put in a shelf to support the system, when you take out the crap collecter theres no support underneath, but that could be just on mine, it looks like somebody already had it out before i got there.

Not bad, that radio fits in there like a glove, wonder was there some dash redesign along the way?

Guess you'll have to mod the glove box if not remove it to get the PS2 in there? I guess you'll only be playing dvds when parked, or the PS2 might get a bit of a rattling, any thoughts on some kind of 'suspension' for it?

Mines the same with no shelf, the standard radio brackets have spots they sit on which gives it support from the back, and then the screws at the front sort out that end, plus the front of the brackets being against the dash stop it rotating from the back. As far as I know there isn't supposed to be any shelf in there.

I'd be curious to see pics of yours too Jon, any about? Think I'd fancy a screen (with a GPS system) at some stage myself, but it would probably be one of the pop-out screens I'd go for. Although having said that maybe a static screen might be a better job?

Would not recommend buying from this guy, had a host of trouble getting other things i had ordered. he said he posted them but i never recieved them.

I ordered my screen from the same company, had no problems at all (thank god). The playstation fits perfect in the glovebox a little of a tight squeeze but thats all the better. I tried mine last nite while driving and it never skipped at all but i wouldnt advise driving with it on, to much of a destraction

Was it a big job to re-locate the stereo ? Whats holding it in place up there??

Is the sound from the screen coming through your stereo or independant?

The stereos not that hard to get in place. Take out the air vents and cut the middle bar out. Youl then have to cut away about half an inch on the left side of the vents where you could open and close them. With this done youl be able to fit the steel case that the stereo secures int, into the vents. The heater pipes that run behind the dash will have to be cut back so the stereo will have enough room to slide in all the way (make sure you block off the pipes as well so no hot air is coming through). Theres a good bit of cutting involved but its such a tight spot it slides in perfect. The steel case which you slide in first will give the stereo enough support. As for the sound mine is coming from the screen but I had wanted it coming through the stereo but because mine is so old it doesnt have an "aux" option. If you do, one of the leads from the screen plugs into the back of the stereo so when you want to hear it through the stereo youl have to turn it on to "aux"

Well lads I did finish it, only 4 months later My plan was to blank off where the ash tray used to be but it didnt look rite,as if it was missing something,espically at nite time it was just to dark! so I sourced a kicker sound equalizer which I fitted underneath.Its not hooked up yet as im waiting to change the head unit
The screen and equalizer are both held in place using filler which needed alot of sanding to get it smooth! Up close theres a few dimples from my spraying but bearly noticeable. Cheers for the help with the pics CJ, hope you like lads
