The Price Of Perfection

Postby goz_83 » Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:40 pm

I thought I should make a fresh thread of this and will update as I go on. It started when I got my mivec :)

I will keep this thread updated with costs of repairs and upgrades and I am always open to suggestions.

€1600 - Cost of Car

€50 - Replacement rear d/side brake caliper & disc
€360 - All new Tires fit.
€135 - Rear Brake pads supply/fit & caliper fit & disc fit.
€25 - Ralli Art Pedals
€150 - Motul Engine Oil, Gear Oil & Denso Sparks (Opie)
€121 - Cambelt Kit (Camskill)
€26 - Cam Shatft Seals x2 (Mitsu)
€86 - OE Water pump
€56 - HID Kit 8000k (main beam) (great discount for long delay)

€105 - 2nd hand starter motor bought and fitted (NO MORE SCREECHING NOISE)
€61 - KMC El Glow dial kit
€78 - Tinted Rear lights and Repeaters (swapped the lights for needle cups)
€10 - dial cover kit (totally blew, so i burned the kit)

€270 - New brake rear brake lines and hoses fitted.

not yet delivered/installed
€27 - Engine Start Button (decided not to connect)
€60 - Red Bolt Engine dress up kit.

(I kept the front and rear struts from the other fto)

TOTAL SPEND TO DATE = €4247. I think the cost will exceed 5k easily by time i'm done.

Plans:
Body work tidy and paint
Tinted windows
Lowering springs (Apex lowering spring installed Feb 2012)
Alarm upgrade (remote start/keyless entry?)
Induction kit (installed April 2012)
engine bay tidy up
interior light upgrade

rear brake discs (installed drilled and grooved discs Feb 2012)

Don't know if i'm missing anything. Ideas?

(STOPPED COUNTING FEB 2012)

If your lobbing a remote start alarm in it dont be mean, spend the extra bit on a decent one. The cheap chinese ones have so many problems it will outweigh any benefit of having it.
What color underbody lights you thinking of?

The car was cutting out before I left for Cork on Friday, so I thought it would be the stepper motor, as it had the same symptoms. I took the stepper motor from the plenum of the old GR and it turned out to be a different type of stepper for the MIVEC. Anyway, I dropped her into the garage and it turned out to be the throttle body full of carbon deposits causing the problem. Another €65 on labour. The seat belt warning sign is no longer working, so w will look at that too. Maybe just a fuse or bulb.

Will get her to a meet soon, as long as it's not toooo far away. I just got back from Cork and I wouldn't wanna make another trip like that for some time. Was at Blarney castle. Great fun teasing some of the other drivers on the way home :)

Yesterday, I sprayed the back plate of the dial a "hammered steel silver" and stuck the polished chrome dial rings into place. Looks even better than a stainless steel back plate imo. I installed the el dial kit today and inserted the engine start button into the ciggy lighter hole, but have not connected it. I tinted the aircon unit bulbs to blue and I also installed 4 blue led bulbs into the armrest storage box, with a red lit power switch. It's starting to look pretty cool now. My next job is to install extra power socket into the sides of the floor console and to run the gps wiring up through the dash.

The bulbs that light the aircon controls already have a blue sleeve over them, but i would like to replace with blue led bulbs in time for better colouring. The bulbs lighting the aircon display are white normally and i used blue bulb paint (can get in halfords) to paint them. There is now a nice hue of blue coming from the display to blend with the rest of the blue lighting.

The Fly Eyes Kits were put on the front lights today. Easy to install. Had blue for front and black for rear, but decide I want all blue, so the black was used elsewhere.

Do us a favour and stick up a pic of the lights at night.

Looks particularly well on the steel silver FTO - just suits the colour better I guess.
Would suit your FTO Stewy.

It does look better on silver, due to the contrast, but i am surprised it turned out as well as it did on the blue one. I have ordered blue for the rear lights too, but i've yet to secure an undamaged p/side rear light. Have had two delivered broken in two weeks.

yeah i was thinking of doing this for a while, then I decided on just ovenbaking the lights and doing a good referb job on them.
But now im leaning towards this as the lights on hid brothers looked like they were nice and polished anyway and the tints look better on it especially with the darkness of the alloys.

I got 6 things to do on my fto so will add this on. I'll do the oven bake anyway first

So I have put the finishing touches (needle cups) to the dials and have taken a pic. I also installed the led gear knob and I also took a snap of the arm rest storage lights I installed. See all below.

I had to chop about 2 inches from the gear stick, because the gator was stretched to capacity, as the new led gear knob didnt sit as low down. 2 minutes with a hack saw and all is good. Looks pretty cool now. I installed the blue fly eyes kit on the rear lights too. Leatherette seats on order now. Another €220 the wife doesn't know about :nwor
