Heya people.

What sort of insurance are you guys paying (the irish guys anyway)?
Is there anyone under 25 who has managed to get insured for an FTO in this country?

Just wondering who the best company to go through is.

Cheers

Actually, for some reason the insurance companies dont have a 1.8GS in their databases. 2.0L only
1.8 Gs they have never heard of.

Hi Dean

Welcome to the forum :)

Most insurance companies have both the 1830cc and 1998cc models on the systems, people have got various different quotes from different companies, check out the following thread to get an idea of what people are paying: http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... c.php?t=35

I see you've been speaking with Shane on the topic of purchasing his GS? That car has been well looked after so you'll have no problems there.

Hehe, yeah - but because of my age, and the insurance level of the car, they may not quote me. Or if they do, an outrageous price.

As of how the car is looked after, I dont doubt it, I have seen the pics on the website, its a very well kept car.

Hey Shane, did ya get the knocking thing sorted out? ;)

I'm lucky. Just paid my insurance yesterday for the next year. I am 27 with 4 years NCB and through the Irish Institute of Engineer I got it, fully comp, for €1045....or 823 punt equiv! Delighted. Thats for a 1.8GS.

Still holding out for that manual GPX if I can find one.

Glennons yea. They DO NOT covver the FTO, MR2s, GTI Golf, Celica or any convertible under the group scheme alright.....But I got round it by complete accident. I had a Seat Ibiza and mid way through my insurance policy 2 years ago I changed to the FTO. They said they would covered me under the FTO until the end of the policy as a car change but not after the renewal date. But, 6 months later I got my renewal letter and have been covered since! But please....dont draw attention to this if you are talking to them

Quinn direct seem to be the biggest insurers. If you can't get it through them at a relatively decent price you may have to spend big.

Alternatively get someone else to insure it for you.....

Ok, good news, they will insure me.
Bad news its €4000

Good news, I turn 25 in December, and when I rang up checking as if I was 25 the quote was €2200.
Soooo, I can cancel in December, get 2700 back, switch to eagle star and pay 2200.

Easy.

Now I just gotta find my FTO.

you probably won't get abck that amount... i'd check if you could to see what kind of return you were getting, just tell them that you're going to be leaving the country or something...

I have done it before, they gave back however much was left. Maybe €20 either side, but it was fairly accurate.
