Any photoshop gurus advise me on how to change a colour on an image into white? As in I want to make something black look like its white instead with keeping the same shades, shadows etc throughout. I tried the colour replacement tool but that doesnt work for white, also tried changing the hue/saturation but it makes it very washed out looking and unrealistic.

Take a look on youtube, there's loads of How-to videos.

I think the function you're after is under filters/effects..and it could be called "Negative"

Dont have ps installed just now, so I could be waaaayyyy off..
