They do but you need to split them from the tie rod. I've a ball joint splitter if you need a lend. Occasionally, the ball joint can separate from the track rod end, you'd be better off replacing them if this happens.

If you take your time and use tape and the existing nut (you'll see what I mean when you go to do it) you wont need to get the car tracked.

Use a vice grips and a spanner to loosen the nut keeping the tierod end (TRE) in place. On do this enough so the nut is loose. Then without moving the TRE, tighten the nut against the TRE using your fingers so that it is flush with the TRE but not pressing against it to the point that you can't move it. Use tape either side of the nut to keep it from moving now. Remove the TRE and then you'll need to force the gaitor over the nut. Careful so as you don't split it, putting some grease on the nut helps. When it's over, clamp it in place, remove the tape on the TRE side of the nut, back on the TRE goes and then using the vicegrip and spanner method tighten the nut and TRE together again. This DOES NOT ensure a perfect tracking, but what it does do is DRASTICALLY reduce the chance of putting the TRE on slightly off.

Thread revival alert !!!!

I just failed my NCT with this common steering gaitor issue. From researching on here I can obviously just go and buy the universal steering rack gaitor at a motor factors, but am I going to need to replace the track rod ends, or will they live to fight another day if taken off correctly ?

If I do need the track rod ends, then I see that these are listed as being the same as a Colt any way, so it looks like I don't need to go near Camskill for this one - correct?
