Rather than current owners and newbie's ringing one company after another and getting turned down, can we not put up a list of one's we know will definetely give a quote.

Starting off

The main insurance companies (as opposed to brokers) that I am aware of are St. Pauls, ARB, Lloyds.....all of whom will deal through brokers only.
AXA will quote the FTO, but appear to be by far and away the most expensive.

:D A bit of good news If you've a fairly clean driving record and don't want to spend a fortune on insurance... 123.ie are offering a set premium of €1123 on high performance cars... Now there is an excess of 2k on this, but is still worth checking out as AXA etc is fairly steep! There are some terms and conditions...aren't there always, for eg: see below....

You qualify if...
You are at least 25 years old OR if under 25 hold a 5 year No Claims Bonus
Your car is valued at between €7.500 and €100,000 with an engine size of less than 3,000cc
You have no convictions other than parking offences and up to 2 penalty points
You have made no more than 2 claims in the past 5 years totalling less than €20,000
You hold a full driving licence (add €400 to premium for a provisional licence)

can we get this sorted once and for all, AXA wouldnt even give me a quote, i tried again yesterday after seeing here that they were quoting again :x
ive a full clean licence, full no claims, im 37  , so whats the story, has anyone here genuinely been given a quote by AXA, as a new client, not an existing policy holder with them :?:

Admittedly they are not competitive, but I did receive a quote from them, it's quite a while ago now though check this thread. I was not aware that they had stopped quoting the FTO :?

got an interesting call from AXA, just 5 minutes ago, according to them they have only started quoting FTOs from a month ago, she claimed it has been a long time since they previously qouted for FTOs, but if this is true then how did anyone here get new quotes????

anyhow, the bottom line is, they updated their database a month ago, and are now quoting, she apologised about their failure to quote me yesterday  and explained the following, there are lots of restrictions.

1/ they wont quote by phone, only if you pop into their branches,
2/ FTO ,catagory 10, as compared to bmw 328 coupe, catagory 7
3/ you must be over 36, full clean licence, full NCB.
4/ car must be kept behind gates in driveway.
5/ must have imobiliser.

im dropping in to get quote. will get back ASAP.

Just off the phone with AXA, must be 30, with full NCB!
=> No quote for Mustang

That said they wanted me to be 30 years old or more to cover a my 156, and evn then they were at least twice as expensive as other insurers!

They may as well not quote at all - their conditions are mucho restrictive

just back from AXA ,longmile rd branch, what an eyeopener, basically there database is a mess, which i was shown by the guy working there, he was lost for words too and couldnt justify the inconsistancies, he was totally understanding and all apologies, said he would look into it, blah blah blah blah blah

they have gpx model listed many times eg:

1/ gpx 24v............. 95 to 99.............. cat 10.
2/ gpx V 6...............95 to 99.............. cat 10.
3 gpx V6 24v............95 to 99............. cat 10.
4/ gpx mivec........95 to 99............. cat 8. ( yes 8 )

5/ gx.........................97 to 99............ cat 10.

anyway, as i stated earlier you need to be over 36, with full licence, full NCB and all the rest of restrictions that i listed, now the "good" part, lol.
there quote came in at a whopping 2,705.68 euro, fully comp, but that didnt include full NCB protection. THEREFORE STEER CLEAR !!!
 [/b]

BTW i didnt notice any 1994 or 2000 ftos listed :?:

You should have got him to quote you for one of the other Cat 10 options for the craic

Nice one AXA !!

Damn inconsistent insurance companies
Al wrote about AXA
3/ you must be over 36, full clean licence, full NCB.

When I rang yesterday they told me 30, with full NCB.

Dean wrote about FBD
FBD - Must be over 25.

I rang FBD looking for quotes on a Levin this morning. They didn't have it listed. Then she went on to say they didn't do jap imports, well not really, we might do like a 1L micra but over say 1.4 performance-like we wouldn't do :?
I'm sure if I ring back later and someone else answers I'll get a different answer.
My GF contacted her local Hibernian branch (with whom she is insured) for a quote on a levin. Reply no can do.
I contacted Hibernian quote line direct and got a quote for a levin myself no problem. (btw she is older than me, full clean licence, full ncb, etc!

Is there no consistency, do they not train their staff :?:
Realise I'm off topic here but this stuff really bugs me :smt013

mustang.... when you rang AXA wherent you inquiring about an alfa 156?

dont ask me why , but the guy definitely said over 36 to me, but as we have seen this might be yet another one of those inconsistancies, i also contacted AXA about a 00/01 bmw 328ci coupe, quoted me a ballpark figure of 1100 fully comp, but she said it cud be dearer/cheaper depending on reg..................... JESUS CHRIST!! WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD THIS MAKE, BTW this so called quote was also given to me yesterday by phone

Well curiousity got the better of me, so I rang FBD back. Got a provisional quote on an FTO GPX. €1433 3rd party F&T not too bad.

No. After you had raised the issue of AXA insurance I rang AXA (my local branch) yesterday specifically to get a quote on an FTO.
Due to the type of car it was he said I'd have to be 30yrs old with full NCB.
TBH I think they were pulling your leg with those restrictions. Did they ask you to hop on one foot as well? :D
The point I was making about the alfa was that when I rang them a few months back they also wanted me to be 30yrs old.

Of course that's because the D reg car will be immaculate due to the superior condition of the roads in County Dublin and the knowledge and skill of the drivers that have used it, whereas the non D-reg will be absolutely shot due to the fact that all of its drivers will have been poor muckers from the country and the car would have been contending with roads littered with potholes, rocks, cows, dogs, sheep.

Right ?

Erm - (sarcasm accepted) Probably true to a certain extent - apart from the skill bit - when you drive narrow, potholed, cow populated country roads for any period of time you do tend to acquire a little more skill than on any road inside the pale.

There are quite a few D reg cars down here though as well - surely where you live would have far more bearing than what reg is on your car. I used to have a D reg FTO which I had down here in Clare for a couple of years. :smt102

I'd like to hear the insurance company explain the difference to me - that would be worth hearing.....just before hanging up on them.

jesus i feel like it at times
Wish i could have tape the conversation i had with Mr AXA, in longmile road, he gave every excuse under the sun as to why the fto was so expensive insurance, below are a few jems he came out with.

1/ he said parts were nearly impossible to get for non irish ftos  , yeh i know, "tosser".
2/ he said they were associated with the boy racer scene
3/ then he said they were grouped as a supercar, jesus give me a break
